Putting the Extra in Extra

A realized cinematic fantasy

This week I had the most incredible opportunity. After submitting a few candid photos to a casting agency, I miraculously landed myself a role as an extra on my favorite TV show since Mad Men. The 1950s fashion, the swooning Peggy Lee inspired soundtrack and the clever wit produce the perfect potion to make my heart sing as I eat up every rolling second of this series. Having long dreamt of time traveling to 1950s New York, I felt I had died and gone to vintage heaven. More documentation on this later, pending I actually make the cut! Sadly, no photos were allowed on set so I must rely on the actual filming of the show for sharing!

As it is summer here in NYC and global warming is doing us no favors, I knew vintage costumes in exterior scenes would be a challenge. So, I prepared this care-package for myself to keep my cool, both physically and emotionally, as I participated in this cinematic chance of a lifetime. With a nod to my high school theater days, I rose to the occasion, declaring “Let’s put the extra in extra!” for there are no small parts in the theater (nor film)!
