A Rehearsal Dinner Party

I was first lured to Deyrolle after coming across a 2007 New York Mag article on Wes Anderson (in anticipation of The Darjeeling Limited) that included a photo of my hero in the vibrant mint wonderland of flora and fauna with the caption below “Anderson at Deyrolle, his favorite taxidermy shop, in Paris”. Feel what you will about taxidermy, but my Regina George-esque allegiance to Wes Anderson had me swooning for these elegant dead animals despite my then vegetarian principles.

My in person visits to Deyrolle only solidified my enchantment with the boutique. It was only natural that once my husband and I decided on an unimaginably palatial apartment in Paris’ 7th Arrondissement through Airbnb for our wedding ceremony, that we integrate my favorite “shop around the corner” into our theme.

To kick off our wedding program festivities, we held a “Rehearsal Dinner” reception four months in advance with my family in Oregon, drawing from Deyrolle’s decor for inspiration. Tables were pushed together in long formations to recreate the furniture of Deyrolle. They were peppered with faux taxidermy birds and animals as well as exotic live plants from a local nursery. To echo Deyrolle’s drawers upon drawers of insects, paper butterflies with feather trim fasten napkins. Tassels were tied to originally illustrated and designed name tags that complimented the invitations, guest book and menus.

What upcoming celebrations are on your horizon? How can Futur Parfait help bring continuity to multiple events when family and friends are geographically challenging?
